Environmental Policy

“Forest First” represents LAUZON’s commitment to environmentally-responsible products and practices.

“Embracing environmental stewardship simply makes for sound forestry practices –it is the right thing to do. In any case, LAUZON was doing the right thing long before it became fashionable or regulated”.

- David Lauzon, President

LAUZON offers the benefits of a fully integrated operation from forest to floor.
This allows us to manage every aspect of production responsibly, ensuring that our values for sustainability are injected into every part of the process. We have access to a guaranteed 25-year supply of renewable raw materials – from a territory in Quebec, Canada, that is roughly one and a half times the size of the state of Connecticut in the USA.  Under the guidance of The Forest Act introduced by Quebec in 1986, LAUZON harvests wood judiciously, using only a third of the available trees from areas rotated for cutting over a quarter century.

LAUZON also offers a range of FSC-certified wood products and is listed on the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) web site as an FSC-certified wood product supplier in Canada. The Forest Stewardship Council is an international organization that promotes environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial, and economically viable management of the world’s forests. FSC is an international certification and labeling system that guarantees that the wood products you purchase come from responsibly-managed forests. Fiber from certified forests is tracked all the way to the consumer through a “chain of custody” certification system. The system is rigorous – and that’s why LAUZON adheres to it. When you buy wood with the FSC logo, you’re helping to ensure there will be wood in the forest for generations to come.

Sawmill
Our revolutionary sawmill design has an impact on LAUZON’s entire supply chain.  It uses more of the tree while generating less waste — which ultimately means harvesting fewer trees from the forest to meet consumer demand.

Operations
LAUZON has a “No Waste” policy as part of our commitment to protect the environment. We recycle all of our own wood shavings and sawdust and convert it efficiently to power the wood kilns and heat our plants – not only do we use all our waste, we significantly reduce our dependence on other power sources.
